Is this normal?

I finished my knitting on the Twin Peaks Shawl last night and wove in the ends this morning. The weather was kind of nuts here today, and the power was knocked out. So I figured that it would be a good time to soak the shawl and then block it.

I haven’t gotten to the blocking yet. I’m still hung up on the soaking part.

When I went back after an hour or so to remove the shawl from the tub where it was soaking, I was floored by the amount of blue dye that had run off the shawl.

Don't let MCY Wool Silk near water

I’ve rinsed and rinsed and rinsed and the blue dye is still running off it in nearly the same intensity as before.

Is this normal?

I’m so sorry. I hate improperly set dye. Hate it.

Not normal at all! You could try a vinegar rinse to set the colors?

I’m sorry about your project :( I’m sure it won’t suck as bad as you think it does ;)

Okay, I was just browsing your blog and saw the post about the MC Yarn issues – is this the same yarn? or different?

Yep, it’s the same yarn. I’ll never order from there again. Too frustrating and far too many better fiber artists out there to put up with this kind of thing.

Thank you so much for the leftover yarn from this project. I’m going to knit a teensy swatch and see if I can heat-set it in the dryer at the laundromat, like I did with my handpainted silk hippari jacket, 20 years ago. *And* I’m going to start saving my pennies to have whatever I knit up from it, dry cleaned each and every time if that doesn’t work.
