There’s no two ways about it. We’re going to have to move!
When we first moved into our home, there was a small pine tree in the back yard. Ellie’s room overlooks the back yard, so we said that would be her special Christmas tree. So when Christmas approached that year, I went out and bought 4 strings of lights (3 for the tree and a spare) and decorated the tree with them.
Last year, I went out and bought 2 more strings. That year, it took 4 strings of lights, but one of the strings from the year before burned out, so we still had one spare.
I just finished the tree for this year. Now, it takes 7 strings of lights. Fortunately, I never threw out the burned out string from last year, as it allowed me to replace the 20 or so burned out bulbs on the old strings. I had tried to find some more strings of lights to match the ones that we had used before, but I can’t find them anywhere. So we have no longer have any extra strings.
To fill up the space that was left, I used some odd strings that don’t match. The tree looks a little funky, but that’s ok. Christmas trees were never meant to be perfect.
All I know is that I don’t think we can afford to keep decorating this tree! It’s getting tall (already about 15 feet). Next year, we’ll likely need 10 strings of lights and a taller ladder.
